Sirhind Fateh Diwas (Victory Day) is observed to commemorate victory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur over Sirhind, where younger sahibzadas (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh sacrificed their lives for refusing to accept Islam. Baba Banda Bahadur captured the Sirhind city and hoisted the Sikh flag in Chappar chiri on May 14, 1710.
14 ਮਈ 1710 ਈ. ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕਬਜਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਝੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੰਗੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭਾਈ ਬਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਜ਼ਿਮ (ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰ) ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਰਹੰਦ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਰਾਜ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਗੀਰਦਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਖ਼ਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਜਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਦੱਬੇ-ਕੁਚਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਬਰਾਬਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਲੋਕ ਗਰੀਬ ਜਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਖੂਨ ਚੂਸ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ।
ਸੂਫ਼ੀ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਬੁੱਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ :
ਭੂਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਤੇ,
ਮੁਗਲਾਂ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਪੀਤੇ।
ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਾਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆ ਗਈਆ ਉੱਥੇ ਆਮ ਨਾਗਰਿਕਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਧੱਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਜਾਂ ਲੁੱਟ ਮਾਰ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਚ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮਜਾਰ ਜਾ ਮਸਜਿਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ I
